Creating a Life
A book written by Sylvia Ann Hewlett exploring the options of having children later in life. It was featured August 16, 2002 on the Oprah Show.
The book reveals:
- 42% of women in corporate America are childless at age 40, and for most of them, it was not their choice.
- 90% of college educated women believed they could easily get pregnant in their 40's.
- In the last 20 years, there has been a 100% increase of childless women aged 40 to 44.
- Women who did manage to become mothers often had to give up their careers.
- "The most distressing reality is that it's very different for men," comment Sylvia. "The more successful you are as a woman, the less likely it is that you have a partner or kids. The reverse is true for men: the more successful you are as a man, the more likely you are to have a partner (or partners) and kids."
